la crèmerie du glacier d'argentière

Veillées

I am fortunate to come from a family rooted in Chamonix for several generations. In Argentière, my maternal great-grandfather was among the first, in the mid-1920s, to harvest ice from the glacier to supply the region’s hotels. In the glacial moraine, he also built a small dairy cottage, which was run by his wife.

Today, after my great-grandparents, my grandparents and then my uncle, it is now my cousin — the fourth generation — who proudly carries on the legacy of the Crémerie. True to its traditional and authentic spirit, the place continues to offer hearty, local cuisine, well-loved by cheese enthusiasts.
Since last winter, Céline and Joss’s Crémerie has also introduced a series of special evenings inspired by the Veillées d’antan — the “Gatherings of Yesteryear.” The idea is to offer about thirty guests per evening the chance to experience the warm, intimate atmosphere of these old village gatherings, which once helped maintain social bonds during nights spent by the fire, lit only by candles.
I have the pleasure of welcoming you and guiding you on a short night-time walk through the moraine, illuminated by lanterns. It’s an opportunity to share the family history of the place, closely tied to the harvesting of ice and the extraction of granite. With a cup of mulled wine in hand, come enjoy a unique evening before sitting down to a delicious, traditional meal full of authentic flavors.

The Veillées return this winter on the following six dates:
December 26, January 2, February 6 and 20, March 6 and 27.
